In 2005 an exciting projecte begins: the organic extra virgin olive oil production in Fuerteventura, more specifically in El Esparragal (Valles de Ortega) at the Antigua municipality.
To that end, we analized the soil, the elevation, the orientation and the weather in the area, as well as the intensity of the winds, sunshine hours, humidity levels and so on. The result of these studies were favourable to grow olive trees, based on the previous existence of some wild olive trees from 100 years ago.
A the same time we valued which olive varieties were the best suited for the soil, and chose two: Hojiblanca and Picual.
In 2006 our team started preparing the soil and planting the olive trees and we harvested our first batch in 2011, which was qualified with excellent quality by several tests. Every batch that has been harvested to this day has archieved excellent quality results.
The olive harvesting history in Fuerteventura starts a few centuries ago after the Conquest of the Canary Islands. The wild olive variety found in Fuerteventura, called acebuche is a thorny tree predominant in large forests on the municipalities of La Oliva, Betancuria and Jandía. Its wood was vastly used to carve tillage and shepherding tools as well as defense and hunt weapons; and the fruit was used as a medicine and edible.
